Meon Valley Cycle Hire Hampshire (booking required)

Cycles for sale: Trek MT60 Boys & Girls £70 (RRP £180) excellent condition.

Meon Valley Cycle Hire is by booking only, usually starting from 'Thatchers Copse' (close to PO14 4HQ) located on National Cycle Route 2, Titchfield, near Fareham on the Hampshire coast. We offer a variety of TREK bikes logo bikes to suit most road and off-road challenges for all the family. We also have a number of 'tag-a-longs' and child seats that can be attached to adult bikes so that children from 18 months can be catered for. Tag-a-longs allow children to enjoy all the fun of cycling, whilst riding safely attached to an adult's bike, ensuring that tired legs can take a break, but the bike will still be making progress courtesy of the adult.

Cycles There are 2 main off-road destinations within reach: the coastal areas of Chilling & River Hamble and the inland area of the Forest of Bere, via the Meon Valley cycle trail, leading to the South Downs Way for the more adventurous- the initial section is on roads.

Bikes can also be organised and delivered for large groups- which have in the past included Team Building Activities, Corporate sponsored charity rides, Scouts & Youth group activity days.

Coastal

There are several routes through the coastal areas of Chilling and Warsash Common, and to get there we provide our customers with free maps for circular rides like ' Sea & Scenery and 4 Villages & a Ferry'. Routes range from 6 to 12 to 20 miles over terrain that is a mixture of quiet roads, off-road tracks, low gradient hills- passing along the way through several pretty villages before heading along the stunning Hamble river path. To complete the river circuit you use the famous Pink Ferry (foot passengers & bikes).

You would then have been through Warsash, Swannick, Burseldon, Hamble Le Rice seen some fabulous boats & yachts , taken in some incredible scenery, passed numerous attractive riverside pubs, cafes, tea rooms and had a great day out.

The route also provides beach access and plenty of opportunity to rest, relax, skim some stones and take in the views as wells as look at wildlife around various ponds, streams and wooded sections, along with the myriad of maritime activity on the Solent.

Inland Rides

If the cycle tracks in the Forest of Bere appeal, then a round trip of approximately 20 miles gets you there and back again. Using the Meon Valley cycle trial on a disused railway, there are only a couple of low gradient hills to be negotiated along this route to reach the destination of the ancient former Royal hunting ground. Here you will find a family cycle trail and a separate mountain bike track crisscrossing streams and ponds, providing several miles of exciting forest cycling. (Free maps provided).

For those who wish to cycle further, the Meon Valley trail, which passes through the picturesque village of Wickham and close to many hamlets and country pubs, stretches onwards for several miles, connecting into the South Downs Way. This National Trail offers the cyclist 100 miles of marked route (mostly off-road), stretching as it does, from the Cathedral City of Winchester to Beachy Head Cliffs near Eastbourne.

South Hampshire and Isle of Wight Tours

Using quiet roads and designated cycle lanes, there are many other interesting destinations that can be reached in an hour or so, including: the beaches at Hill Head (heading West); the historic City of Portsmouth via the Gosport passenger ferry (heading West); or the Manor Farm and Royal Victoria Country Parks (heading East) across the river Hamble using either a small passenger/ cycle ferry or on a road route.

Alternatively, for more adventurous day trips, cycles can be hired and taken over to the Isle of Wight. If you use the Fastcat ferry service from Portsmouth there is no charge for cycle transportation- just the foot passenger charge to pay. For those wishing to stay longer on the Island, the Isle of Wight offers greater riding on numerous mapped cycle routes as well as the long established Round the Island trail, a not inconsiderable challenge. These Isle of Wight cycle publications are stocked by Meon Valley Cycle Hire (MVCH) to assist in planning such tours and short breaks.

MVCH can also assist you with planning self-guided Cycle Tours.
